Welcome to Growr ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we collect, use, and safeguard your information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection, usage, and your rights when using our mobile application (the "App").

By using our App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. This policy describes our current practices and may be updated; the "Last Updated" date indicates when it was last revised.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

We collect information that you voluntarily provide when using the App:

  • Habit Data: Names, descriptions, completion dates, start dates, and custom emojis for your habits
  • Journal Entries: Daily journal content and notes you create
  • Sleep Data: Bedtimes, wake times, sleep quality ratings, and sleep notes
  • User Preferences: Theme preferences (light/dark), audio settings, notification preferences, and display options
  • Focus Timer Settings: Custom timer configurations and focus method preferences

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the App, certain information is processed locally on your device:

  • Habit Completion Data: Timestamps and dates when you complete or track habits (stored locally)
  • App Usage Data (with permission): Time spent in other apps, if you grant Screen Time permission—used only locally to enforce restrictions you set

Device information (e.g., type, OS) may be used by the App or platform services but is not collected or transmitted to our servers.

1.3 Permissions and Sensitive Data

With your explicit permission, we may access:

  • Camera: For live preview during habit tracking ("Panic mode")
  • Location: Approximate location to sync garden sky animations with sunrise and sunset times in your area (times may not be exact every time)
  • Screen Time (iOS only): To monitor app usage and apply restrictions you configure

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

2.1 Core App Functionality

  • Habit Tracking: To track your habit completion, display progress, and visualize your garden
  • Focus Tools: To manage focus timers, Pomodoro sessions, and productivity features
  • Sleep Tracking: To help you monitor and improve your sleep patterns
  • App Restrictions: To help you manage screen time and app usage limits you set

2.2 Personalization

  • To customize the App experience based on your preferences (theme, audio, display settings)
  • To remember your settings and preferences across sessions
  • To sync garden sky animations with approximate sunrise/sunset times in your area (times may not be exact every time)

2.3 App Improvement

  • To improve features, fix bugs, and enhance user experience
  • Usage information is processed locally; we do not receive analytics or usage data on our servers

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1 Local Storage

All your data is stored locally on your device using secure local storage (AsyncStorage). We do not upload, sync, or store your personal data on remote servers or in the cloud. Your data remains under your control and on your device.

3.2 Data Security

Your data is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. We do not add app-level encryption to stored data. Protection of your data relies on:

  • Platform sandboxing: Your device's operating system (iOS or Android) isolates the App's data so only the App can access it; other apps and users cannot access your App data without access to your device
  • No transmission: We do not transmit your habits, journal entries, sleep data, or other personal content over networks (except as noted in Section 4)

Data stored by the App is not encrypted by the App. Your device may use full-disk encryption (e.g., iOS data protection, Android device encryption) when the device is locked, but that is provided by the operating system, not by us.

No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

3.3 Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device until:

  • You delete it through the App's features (including "Delete All Data" in Settings)
  • You uninstall the App (uninstalling may not always delete data—e.g., if restored from iCloud or Google backup)

We cannot explicitly delete your data on your behalf. To ensure complete deletion, use "Delete All Data" in Settings (Data & Privacy section).

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Platform Services

The App uses services provided by your device's operating system:

  • iOS/Android System Services: The App may interact with system services for features like notifications, haptics, and system UI
  • Apple HealthKit (iOS): Used only when you explicitly grant permission to read sleep data from Apple Health for sleep tracking. Sleep data is read from Health and stored locally in the App; we do not transmit it to servers
  • Apple Screen Time API (iOS): Used only when you explicitly grant permission to monitor and restrict app usage

5. Your Rights and Choices

5.1 Access and Control

You have the right to:

  • Access Your Data: All your data is stored locally and accessible through the App
  • Modify Your Data: Edit habits, journal entries, and other content at any time
  • Delete Your Data: Delete habits, journal entries, and other content through App features
  • Export Your Data: Use "Export My Data" in Settings to download your habits, journal entries, sleep data, and other personal data in a portable JSON format (export may not work in all cases)

5.2 Permissions

You control all permissions:

  • Camera: You can deny or revoke camera access at any time through device settings
  • Location: Location access is optional and used only for approximate sunrise/sunset synchronization (times may not be exact every time)
  • Screen Time: This is an iOS system permission you control through Settings

6. Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, please note that because all data is stored locally on your device, we cannot access or delete it ourselves—you must use "Delete All Data" in Settings (Data & Privacy section) to remove it.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please use "Delete All Data" in Settings (Data & Privacy section) to delete your child's data. See Section 3 for more information on data deletion.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.

Your data is stored locally on your device and is not shared with:

  • Third-party advertisers
  • Data brokers
  • Other apps or services

Subscription and paywall services: When you interact with in-app purchases or subscriptions, our paywall provider (Superwall) and the App Store or Google Play may collect usage and conversion data to operate their services. This does not include your habits, journal entries, sleep data, or other personal content—those remain on your device.

8. International Users

If you are using the App from outside the United States, please note that your data is stored locally on your device and not transferred internationally. However, by using the App, you consent to the processing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes to this Privacy Policy or our Terms of Service by:

  • Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App
  • Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy
  • Providing in-app notification for significant changes

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.

10. Data Deletion

10.1 Deleting Your Data

You can delete your data in several ways:

  • Individual Items: Delete individual habits, journal entries, or other content through App features
  • All Data: Use "Delete All Data" in Settings (Data & Privacy section) to permanently delete all your app data. This is the most reliable method. Uninstalling the App may also delete local data, but data can persist if restored from iCloud or Google backup—use "Delete All Data" before uninstalling if you want to ensure complete deletion
  • Specific Features: Use the App's built-in deletion features for specific data types

10.2 Data Deletion Assistance

Because all data is stored locally on your device, you must delete your data yourself through the App's features (see Section 10.1). We cannot delete your data on your behalf. If you have questions about how to delete your data, please contact us using the information provided in Section 11.

12. Additional Information for Specific Features

12.1 Screen Time / App Restrictions

If you enable Screen Time features:

  • The App may monitor usage of other apps on your device
  • This data is used only locally to enforce restrictions you set
  • Data is not transmitted or shared outside your device
  • You can disable this feature at any time

12.2 Location Services

When you grant location permission:

  • We use approximate location (not precise GPS coordinates)
  • Location is used to calculate approximate sunrise/sunset times for garden sky animations (including background calculations); times may not be exact every time
  • Location data (latitude, longitude, timezone, and calculated sun times) is stored locally on your device so the app can display the garden sky without repeatedly requesting location
  • Location data is not transmitted to our servers
  • You can revoke location access at any time; use "Delete All Data" in Settings to remove stored location data

13. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request information about the personal information we collect (note: we collect minimal data and store it locally)
  • Right to Delete: You can delete your data through App features. Use "Delete All Data" in Settings for complete deletion; uninstalling may not always remove data if restored from backup
  • Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have direct control over your information.

14. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right to Access: Your data is accessible through the App
  • Right to Rectification: You can edit your data through App features
  • Right to Erasure: You can delete your data as described in Section 10
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Your data is only processed locally on your device
  • Right to Data Portability: Use "Export My Data" in Settings to download your data in a portable JSON format
  • Right to Object: You can disable features or revoke permissions at any time
  • Right to Lodge a Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority in your country of residence

  • Using "Delete All Data" in Settings (Data & Privacy section)—this is the most reliable way to ensure your data is deleted
  • Uninstalling the App (note: uninstalling may not always remove data if it is restored from device backup)
